[edit] Career

[edit] My Chemical Romance

Bryar met My Chemical Romance while working as a sound technician with The Used, through the help of MCR's manager and friend, Brian. The group became casual friends but did not keep in touch once the mutual tour ended. Before a tour of Japan, while the band was struggling through some personal problems (one of these problems being Gerard Way's road to sobriety), they dismissed their current drummer Matt Pelissier from the band. The exact reason is still not well known to the fanbase because, by quote of MCR, "They don't like to talk shit"[citation needed]. Two days before the "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" video shoot, Bob was asked to fill in for Matt. Bryar was soon hired as a permanent member of My Chemical Romance and his work has brought praise from bandmates, inspiring Frank Iero (rhythm guitar, backing vocals) to say, "Bob and (lead guitarist Ray) Toro are the two hardest working people I've ever met, and if there is a God, I thank him everyday for bringing us Bob."[citation needed]

[edit] Cameras

Bob Bryar is well known for his hatred of cameras. He was pretty much thrust into the limelight when MCR asked him to join the band and was used to being on the other side of the lens. When faced with cameras, Bob is known to either walk in the opposite direction of the camera, hit it, kick it, or smash it.

[edit] Equipment

Bryar uses C&C Custom Drums[1]and Sabian cymbals,[2] utilizing Sabian's Paragon series.[citation needed] Bryar uses Vic Firth American Classic Rock drumsticks with Vic Firth Victape, to avoid losing grip of his sticks.[3]

[edit] Injuries

During the making of My Chemical Romance's music video for Famous Last Words in 2006, Bob received second and third degree burns from the fire torches used to ignite the set behind him. Though he was coated with a fire protector on his back, his leg was severely burned.[1] Despite being burnt he carried on playing and he finished the video, but later received hospital treatment for his injuries as he displays in the final moments of the video. Had he not been taken in to hosptial, he would have lost his leg to gangrene. Due to his and Gerard's injuries, the show that night in San Diego had to be cancelled. [2] A few weeks later, his injury became severely infected so he had to receive additional treatment. He has also gotten a staph infection on his face that, according to Gerard Way "almost traveled to his brain and he would've died."

On the second leg of The Black Parade tour, Bryar, along with several other band members and crew, contracted food poisoning after dining on a break night, as a result, several tour dates were canceled. [3]

In November of 2007, Bryar suffered problems with his wrists causing him to lose control of his fingers. A replacement musician had to take over Bob's place as drummer for My Chemical Romance until specialists cleared him to play again.[4]Bob posted an announcement later on and wrote the following on the "News" section of My Chemical Romance's website
